Quests!

Hey! I started with the questing system yesterday. Basic killing quests are already working. The quest texts are generated randomly from a set of phrases (both English and German is supported at the moment).

Each quest giver will send you to a questing region which is also highlighted on the minimap. The quest progress is displayed on the right side below the minimap.

Right now you get just XP for completing a quest. In the future you will also get rewards like weapons, items or money. Next I will implement quest lines and more complex quests.

Here are some screens showing a complete quest:

Hey great progress so far! CANT WAIT FOR THIS GAME!!

Fantastic as usual, Wollay. May I ask what those four empty boxes at the top left of the screen are for?

wollay said...

Thanks!

@MattBrox You can place items like mushrooms, potions in the boxes for quick access (they are mapped to keys 1-4).

It's amazing how fast you're creating content, and it looks like very high-quality work.

Dude, are you sure you're working alone on this? I'm blown away by the amount of content you're adding.
Keep up the awesome work.

Cool! :D
Aber die Quest NPC's sollten in den Dörfern stehen, bzw. ein eigenes Haus haben... Sieht ein bisschen komisch aus wenn sie einfach so in der Wildnis rumstehen^^

Awesome stuff as usual man, posting my support so ya know were out here =p.

Can't think of a good question to ask at this time like I usually do, so just good work for now. =)

@Wollay
Just 2 GOBLINS???
You need to put some difficult in this game... I think the quest need to be like killing at least 10 monsters (to be easy) but only 2?

Pastabox said...

Hope It would be possible to make a translation mod.

wolfgang784 said...

Guy two posts above this, you know nothing about the difficulty, do not just yell stuff out. You need to think.

---He said the quests were random, two may be the lowest number it goes.

---It might be low currently so he can complete the quests quickly to look for bugs.

---Do you know the strength of these goblins? Do you know the strength of the character at the point in the game when you would be fighting these goblins? It could be a very hard fight you all you know.

I am sure he will polish and balance out the game as much as he wants before it is released, this is the first we have seen of quests. Comment on the actual game mechanics or ask questions, don't just yell out ways to improve upon a part of the game that you know nothing about.

Rant over, I hate people who do not think things though. As well as people that use multiple question marks. As well a people that use caps when it is not needed. As well as people that talk about stuff they know nothing about. All of these combined required a good rant.

Anyway, again, awesome job on the quests so far Wallay.

Wollay, did you remove clouds completely from world generation? They looked great and, if done right, could have presented some form of sky worlds; which would contribute to more exploration and variety.

Anonymous said...

I have a question about the world. In previous versions you said that the world is randomly generated. Now that you have quests with specific regions it seems that the map is no longer random.
Am I right?

also @Iceman404. I love the idea. Do it wollay!

Xaphedo said...

First of all, great game: really good concept.

But I want to say few things:
1. The vegetation is so occasional that it's quite hard to tell if you're actually standing on grass, dirt, sand, or anything. It can easily be fixed, maybe just adding a express option
2. Apparently there wont be mod support, that sucks. A game so much versatile can multiply his contents in a jiffy with the full support of the web. To reject this opportunity you have to be quite egotist () or just an insane conservator (nothing to do with the political orientation). No offense meant;
3. Releasing your custom voxel editor would be a wonderful thing, maybe included in mod support. But it has so much potential uses that releasing it before the alpha testing phase can't be a lame idea;
4. Building will be implemented (I understand), but mining will not. Now just let me be sincere: most of the people that will play this game will be Minecraft fans, and you are actually wasting an huge opportunity. Mining and resourse collecting (as lumberjacking, fishing, building, farming, etc) can be really comfortable alternatives to who's temporarily tired of messing with monsters; and will be a big chance to show your creativity and efficiency, not only in multiplayer;
5. I get that you will be able to choose your character trough a varied selection, but an additional skin editor (yeah, just as Minecraft) isn't the worse thing in the world. Think how frustrating will be not to be able to find something you like, and how sad will be having that character trough an unlimited number of levels.. Not really satisfactory, isn't it?
6. I hope you added decent physics, because the water in the screenshots look quite foolish to me. As well as the voxel physics (floating trees? naah.. this is not Minecraft!)
7. The ability to make custom npcs, quests and named maps (along with the building/mining thingy) would just be extraordinary: people can make awesome adventures, that a random generation will never be able to compose properly. Let the custom maps exist!
8. Happy new year, Wollay (although there are still few hours left :P)

No, quests and the world are randomly generated.

"Wollay, did you remove clouds completely from world generation?"

I'll add cloulds again when I implement weather.

But when will it come out?!!!?????????!!!!!?

AugustoAD said...

@Xaphedo
Dude, this isn't a minecraft clone, it's meant to look like old RPGs. I liked the mod things you said, tho.

Jesper said...

@Xaphedo
like i told the other mc fans
go back to mc.
you're right.. this is not an mc clone.
yet u keep comparing it to minecraft all the fucking time.
ironic?

Anonymous said...

Holy crap that is the best thing ive ever seen in my entire life! cant wait for this game to realese!!! Btw, will you create like an beta alpha stuff so people can try it out before its realesed?

Nachtrae said...

Big thumb up for you Wollay. You just keep throwing out content like it is nothing! Very amazing.

AGMangoJuice97 said...

I hate all the people like @jesper who hate on people like @Xaphedo for comparing this game to minecraft. You do realise they aren't comparing the game to minecraft itself or they would be saying -"ADD CREEPERS AND ENDER DRAGONS PLZ!" They are comparing this game to the creativity of minecraft and any other good rpg. Your going to hate me but an example is runescape... Watch the hate flow in. The thing about these games is that they aren't just solely based on going around and killing enemies. They are also based on doing other things like fishing, mining, wood cutting and other skills to help you improve your character and experience. These skills are also a break from just killing stuff all the time, which can, in all honesty, get boring. With such a big random world I'm sure people would love to just fish or mine as a little relaxing time but to also get better weapons and food. Rant/suggestion over.

By the way I love the look of this game and the effort you put into it.

Happy new year.

Xaphedo said...

@Jesper (and others)
You didn't get what I was talking about.
Minecraft is just a comparison.. Just that.
So, before saying "ironic?" think about what I said, read it again, but this time forget that Minecraft exists. Make this experiment, you will not regret it. Make me this favor.
And then, I hope, you will also understand what AGMangoJuice97 is saying.

Because learning from the previous successes means being sage, not a plagiarist

NB As always, I apologize for the typos

AugustoAD said...

@Xaphedo, sorry, that's impossible. Those ideas would sound GREAT (and really original too, wich is actually the main goal of this kind of indie game, even while it's inspired in many other games), but minecraft does exist and it would seem to be a "rip-off" outta the game. :P
Still, you're being really helpful to Wollay (I'm pretty sure because I'm a game developer too).

Xaphedo said...

@AugustoAD
I said that just for stopping people complaining about other people that compare CubeWorld to Minecraft. But I think you get it anyway ;)
But it still will not be a "rip-off", not more than Terraria.

I'ld like you to explain why I'm being useful to Wollay, in order to make everybody understand it

AGMangoJuice97 said...

@AugustoAD Since when has being able to cut a tree or mine been a rip off of something? You might as well being saying that he is comparing it to runescape more than minecraft. Having those things is not being a rip off, its just a creative idea. Otherwise every game that you kill monsters in would be a rip off of the first and every open world game is just a rip off of the first.

AugustoAD said...

@AGMangoJuice97 I know that, but, when you see "mining" written, and from the looks of Cube World, you remember minecraft right away. Unless it works COMPLETELY differently from minecraft, it will be a rip off. There are HUGE differences between copying something and being inspired by something.

Xaphedo said...

Can I say a word?
Can I?
Terraria. I dare you: say that it's a rip off of Minecraft, and we're ok. Because CubeWorld looks really different from Minecraft; there are more core differences than Terraria compared to Minecraft. Indeed there are.
I dare you

@ Wollay
How did you learn Programming ? Please tell me :)
Awsome work dude.

@ Wollay
-Weather sounds: Can you have the weather noise soft and quiet and peaceful? Like example from minecraft, the sound is so annoying, I turned the rain noise off.

-Quest:
I have an Idea on a quest.
Will you have a npc: Hunter?
Once you help with their quest, they will feel free to trade you?

Also, once you finish a random event... will it repeat some time later again?

And people-- Can we talk about CubeWorld? It seems like we are talking alot about minecraft and terraria on wollay's blogspot. Just saying.

Xaphedo said...

Dear Anonymous
It seems like you are not listening properly. Just saying

Anonymous said...

Let him make his own game. He wants to be original. Personally I'd like that too.

Rather than grind mining I think dungeons/catacombs/labyrinths (pre-set but randomly generated such as the villages and castles are) would fit the game better, but that is just a suggestion.

Clearly he's releasing amazing amounts of content so I don't know why mod support is being asked for before the games even out.

Everyone understands the versatility of minecraft and how it got big, but as said before this is a totally different game and WILL become big for reasons of it's own.

Thankyou for working so hard Wollay

Hey there! I started with all the questing program last night. Fundamental killing missions happen to be doing work. The actual pursuit WOW Gold text messages are created randomly coming from a set of key phrases (each Uk along with German is actually supported right now).

Every quest tilbyder will send that you a questing location and this is featured about the minimap. Your mission advancement is actually displayed on the best part below the minimap.

Today you obtain just XP pertaining to doing a new pursuit wow gold for sale. Down the road you will also obtain advantages such as weaponry, products seo or income. Up coming I am going to implement quest outlines and more sophisticated quests.

Looks amazing! Btw, if you would like the game in more languages, I could translate it from English to Dutch. There are a lot of Dutch gamers active and I'm sure a lot of them can't wait for this game just as me. Let me know if you're interested! :)

What about adding 'Factions'? Then you could make longer and more complex quest lines within the factions. they could include a magic school, a warrior's guild ect... Great game btw! i cant wait untill its released !!!

hey, i like your game really nice 2 little question can i donate to help you? and
did you release a beta of Cube World this Year :)

TheChumbamonster said...

Good Job:D Keep it up!
You should also make the game cost some money:D
I would pay

TheChumbamonster said...

I was thinkiing about the "hunter" npc som1 was talkin about and you should be able to meet up to 3 different npc who follow you and help you if you complete their quest. (In singleplayer that is) and in multiplayer you can have up to 2 npcs following you to fight.
